FUN FACTS ABOUT THE HAMPTONS

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was born at Southampton Hospital. She would have been born in New York City, but she was six weeks late and her parents skipped town to summer in the East End.

Bobby Van’s, the Bridgehampton steakhouse was originally a hangout for literary legend Truman Capote. He always ordered his signature drink, an “orange thingee” (four parts vodka, one part orange juice).

The Montauk Lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington and is the oldest lighthouse in New York State.

Jackson Pollock and his wife, Lee Krasner, moved to East Hampton in the ’40s. After their deaths, the property was given to the Stony Brook Foundation, which offers tours of their house and studio.
